20.07.2013: 53. ADAC Reinoldus-Langstreckenrennen
For the 5th round of the VLN endurance championship hopes were high for the #33 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3 from CarCollection Motorsport.
Paired with Christopher Zoechling, Henri Moser & Peter Schmidt, the team anticipated a top 5 result in the race.
Qualifying on Saturday morning went well, finishing 8th.
For the start of the race, Henri Moser was selected, 2nd stint was done by Peter Schmidt and the final and last stint Christopher Zoechling was behind the wheel.
After Henri’s stint, handing the SLS AMG GT3 over to Peter, the team was in P1 overall.
Peter did a good job behind the wheel of the SLS GT3.
For the last and final stint Christopher did very well. Fighting back from P7 to P4, aiming at a top 3 finish, Christopher suffered a flat tyre in the front right.
Having had to crawl back to pits very slowly, they fell back to P12 which was then the final result of the race.

"For me this was my first VLN race of the season, even though it was the championships 2nd official race."
Christopher partnered up again with Peter Schmidt (D) & Marcel Blumer (CH) of team "Car Collection Motorsport
Peter and Marcel had already raced the new Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 in the first race of the VLN series, where as Christopher had to get newly aquainted to the torque heavy V8 AMG GT3.
Christopher after his first outing after friday's free practise:
"Well first of all I was quite surprised by how small the interior of the SLS AMG GT3 actually is. Having raced the Audi R8 Ultra LMS last year November, fitting perfectly fine into it, I had a few issues with my seating position.
Besides that, I had my first 40 minutes to race in absolutely wet conditions. For anyone familiar with the Nürburgring Nordschleife one can imagine how difficult it is getting used to a new, very powerfull car on a complete wet circuit."
For saturday the weather forcast stated 2-5 degree celcius and 99% chance of rain. Qualifying early in the morning started in semi wet conditions and Christopher was planned to run the 3rd and final part of the Quali session.
"I was told by Thomas, my engineer, that I would get to run the important last 25 minutes of the qualifying with the new Dunlop rain tyres. After just the first lap I felt something was off with the balance of the car."
Chris had trouble keeping the Stuttgart V8 monster under control due to a lack of overall tyre preassure.
"After having a chat with the Dunlop engineers, we were told that we ran with way too low tyre preassure, resulsting in a great loss of traction in the wet.,"
For the race, Chris was the start driver again with the Dunlop rain tyres. Right at the beginning of the race Christopher did not have it easy. The overall balance of the car was a slight bit better, yet still way of pace to keep up with the leaders.
"Overall it was an O.K weekend. The weather obviously played a big role and I wish I could have had more seat time in the SLS especially in the dry.
My next race will most likely be the 24 hour race at the 17. - 20. May with Car Collection in the Porsche GT3 Cup ... but more on that later".
